Spring Toddler Water Table With Rubber Ducks

Inside: We put together a fun spring toddler water table that was inspired by a favorite book, Pete the Cat: Five Little Ducks. We added droppers as an extra fine motor strengthening tool, and it was a hit! If you don’t have a water table, try it in the bathtub or sink! Our toddlers love water. Every single year! We provide it indoors and outdoors and it’s a great calming activity. But a toddler water table also is a wonderful way to strengthen fine motor skills if you had the right tools. That’s exactly what this rubber ducks toddler water table was all about.

Circle Time

I had 5 yellow rubber ducks on the floor, and as each duck went away, I removed a duck. This was a great way to work on very simple counting skills! See more circle time ideas in my favorite videos!

Water Table

It was then time to explore our water table that included yellow plastic ducks. And yes, that is a Christmas duck. We also had a leprechaun duck. Along with some football player ducks. This is the collection we had on hand and it worked just fine! All we had to do was remove the lid to this water table, and they were right there. No special instructions. They got right to work picking up the ducks, squirting the water, and having fun. Our most recent activity was using them to drop watercolors onto paper towels. We’ve actually used them for so many activities because they are that wonderful. I also added another favorite fine motor tool: bug tongs. This toddler water table ended up being a place for calm, as our water tables usually are. The feeling of the water slipping through the fingers, the sound of the water trickling as it is squeezed from the droppers. This is especially loved by busy toddlers. When finished with this water table, consider moving the ducks to your block area with some blue felt (water) and building materials!
