Young children will be working their fine motor skills while adding their own creative touches to these fun paper snowflakes. When finished, you can display them on the wall or hang from the ceiling!
Winter Collage on Tin Foil Rainbow Collage Shamrock Collage Torn Paper Fall Collage
Because of my love for collage art, I keep a stash of random small pieces in our storage cabinet. In fact, if I have leftover pieces from any art project, I will add them to my collection of collage pieces. This makes it real easy when I am preparing an art activity! In fact, many of the pieces of this collage activity were leftover from a winter window art activity we did last year. (Go check it out!)
Snowflake Art Collage
This activity is rich with fine motor work as their fingers pinch the small objects and press them into the glue. You can also use pieces of foil, felt, fabric, ribbon, plastic milk jug caps, macaroni, string … the list goes on and on! Take a look at what you already have and add those to this collage activity. Note about smaller pieces and toddlers: You can omit the small beads and buttons if you are concerned about choking. The wonderful thing about collages is that you can use a variety of loose parts in larger sizes, too! I like to place everything on a tray (these are my favorite current trays). I set six of these trays on our art table so they are ready to go. (Note: I have ten students, so as one student finishes, I place their snowflake collage on the drying rack and put fresh materials out for the next child.) If the entire snowflake isn’t covered in glue, you might need to remind your toddlers to press their pieces where they will stick (on the glue) or they will fall off. When they are finished, let dry and display! I love thinking about that when I put together collages. Smooth, bumpy, fluffy, etc. As long as they know how to press the pieces onto the glue, they can add as little or as much of the collage pieces as they wish.
