Add some color to your window with this winter art activity! Roll out a big piece of sticky Con-Tact Paper and gather assorted blue and white pieces. Invite your toddlers to take the pieces and press them onto the sticky paper, creating a window collage. A fun addition to your winter theme!
I love hanging displays in the window and we do it all year long. If you’ve been following Teaching 2 and 3 Year Olds for awhile, these might look familiar:

But I especially love adding art to the windows during winter because the outdoors here can be rather dreary. Adding art to the windows adds much desired color and cheerfulness to our surroundings! Plus, our toddlers LOVE seeing their work displayed. They will stop during the day and point, remembering when they contributed to the art piece. This winter toddler art activity is a group project that is simple, builds fine motor skills, and plain fun!
Con-Tact Paper Tape (to hold the Con-Tact Paper on the table) Assorted collage pieces in white and blue
It’s truly that simple. I went through our storage closet and searched for assorted white and blue pieces, and I also paid attention to texture. I wanted this to be a fun sense of touch activity.
Cut a large piece of Con-Tact Paper from the roll, remove the paper backing, and tape sticky side up to a table. It’s that easy!
Invite your toddlers to take the collage pieces and press them onto the sticky paper. At first they might be amazed at the feeling of the Con-Tact Paper, especially if this is their first time using it. They might want to take their hand and press it right on top, then lifting it, just to feel the stickiness.
That is, there is no specific end result. It’s all about the actual doing. Your toddlers will simply have fun feeling the different textures as they remove them from the tray, pressing them onto the sticky paper.
Those little motions are important to build fine motor strength. This will get the hands ready to hold writing tools!

The Finished Piece
I always like to press the pieces down a bit more so that less will fall off. Even then, depending on what you used for collage pieces, some will probably fall off when transferring to the window. (Pom poms might not have been the best choice, but we made it work.) Remove the tape that is securing the Con-Tact Paper to the table. Carefully lift the entire piece and carry it to your window. I will admit that I got an extra set of hands to help me with this. Depending on the size, you might want to do the same. Position the collage so that the sticky side faces the window. Then, press the entire piece onto the window. If your toddlers filled most of the sticky paper, you might need additional tape around the edges to keep it on the window.
