Printable Valentine’s Day Circle Time Prop

During the first two weeks of February our theme is Valentine’s Day, including friendships and feelings. The heart shape is a nice symbol for all three of those ideas, so I decided to create a prop that can be used with a variety of circle time activities. You all know how I love simple, and this prop is exactly that.

Assembling the Valentine’s Day Circle Time Props

What you will need:

Popsicle sticks or Jumbo Craft Sticks Laminator Scotch tape Printable Valentine’s Day prop (scroll down to find the link)

I suggest either printing these on heavy paper or laminating them for extra durability. Make enough copies so that you have one heart for each student and yourself. Preparation: Cut out the desired amount of hearts. I’ve provided three different colors – red, pink and purple – so you can vary the colors or use just one. Gather your popsicle or jumbo craft sticks.After cutting them out, tape them to the top of a popsicle stick.

Using the Valentine’s Day Props During Circle Time

Gather your children at circle time. Before reading Valentine’s Day books, reciting rhymes, or singing Valentine’s Day songs, hand each child a heart stick puppet. They can hold these during the circle time session. Sometimes I like to first get them familiar with holding the prop. I will tell them to tap various body parts with their props, such as their heads, their noses, their knees, and their toes. Then, invite your students to hold their heart sticks while you sing a song, recite a rhyme, or read a book.
