One of our favorite preschool activities is painting with toys, such as our Lego painting activity. But this year I noticed that our preschoolers wanted to get our toy vehicles involved in everything. I kept finding them in the play dough, in the sensory bin, and on the light table. So, during our toddler and preschool transpiration theme, I decided that we needed to get some paint involved. After talking about different types of transportation vehicles, we painted with them! And then, when finished, we took them to our water table for a nice wash.
During circle time, read some favorite transportation books. Then show your preschoolers different types of vehicles. As you hold up each one, ask them if they are used on the land, in the water, or in the sky. Note: I’ve added some land, air and sky sorting cards towards the bottom of this post that would be a fun addition to this activity! Then, set up a painting activity. It happened to be a very nice day so we took this activity outdoors.
I then added a different type of vehicle to each plate of paint. The vehicles were then pressed into the paint and onto paper.
When one child was finished with a certain vehicle, he passed it to another child and got a different one. If you have a water table, you can use it to wash the paint off the vehicles.
An extra fine motor activity that was perfect for this preschool transportation activity!
