Preschool Shape Activities With Circles

There are so many preschool shape activities with circles! We start our year with the circle shape. In the past we’ve done paper tube circle stamping. This year I wanted to try something a bit different. We had several tennis ball containers that were donated by a parent. We also had bubble wrap. You see where I am going here. Yep, this year we stamped circles with bubble wrap. (And, if you have been following my blog for awhile, you know how much I love bubble wrap!) I am also always looking for something that will strengthen fine motor development. This circle shape activity includes both….and is super easy!

What you will need:

Any type of container with a lid that a toddler or preschooler can wrap his hand around. (We used tennis ball containers and peanut butter containers.) Bubble Wrap Tempera Paint Trays for paint Paper

Making the circle stamper:

Place the lid of your container on the bubble wrap and trace around it. Cut the bubble wrap and glue onto the lid. Place the lid back on the container.

Setting up the art table:

Pour the tempera paint into trays. Place the bubble wrap stampers into the trays. Place paper next to tray. Invite your children to move the stamper from the tray onto paper. Note: I had several stampers and several colors of paint. I placed one stamper in each color. This gave the children an opportunity to experiment with various colors, watching them blend on their paper.

Now the fun begins!

You can see why I love the size of tennis ball containers. Little hands wrap perfectly around them! But, other sizes will work, too. (Those of you who have followed me awhile know I am always looking for ways to develop fine motor skills!)

And yes, the children will want to slide the stampers, too. All the more fun!

With our toddlers, I poured various colors on one big tray. It seemed to work better for them.

You can see how the colors are starting to blend.

Once we were finished, I simply rinsed them off, but not perfectly. There are still crevices with paint. No worries. I tucked them away in our storage box so we can use them again later.
