Preschool Rainbow Light Table

We love to explore colors in March during our rainbow theme! I always have way more planned that we ever have time for, but this year I made sure to include a fun light table activity that included rainbow cones and accessories that were given to me from Open Play Toys. We had already tested these cones in our block area the month prior, so I knew they’d be a big hit on the light table. I was right! Fun for the children and so easy to set up. Win, win!

I was instantly intrigued and we decided to use fundraising money to purchase light tables for each of our preschool classrooms. Since then we have put so many different items on our light table, many of which you can see in my light table collection post. Because my light table shows in each of my classroom set up videos, I am constantly getting emails and messages asking where we purchased our light table. We’ve had several, but my current light table is over ten years old and no longer available. Here are some others you might want to look at:

Back to our rainbow-themed table, here is what we used:

Rainbow Cones (Small Kit) Rainbow Cones Accessory Pack

Setting everything up was a breeze! I set out one cone of each color on the light table in rainbow order and then added the accessories. I told you it was easy!

For an hour, the children can move around and visit any of our centers for as little or as long as they’d like.

I watched as they pushed the sticks and chenille stems in the holes of the cones, as well as the golf tees. By the way, this is a great way to strengthen fine motor skills as well as hand-eye coordination!

“I made a telescope!” Next thing I knew, several children were sporting telescopes, looking around the room and at each other. Learning through play! This was by far one of our favorite light table activities so I look forward to displaying it again with my new group of students!
