When we create the printable packets that are in our shop, I don’t just think of my two and three year olds. These packets are also used with the three’s class and the pre-kindergarten class, and I love to share how they use them! However, this preschool pumpkin counting activity can be used for two year olds, too, in a much simpler way. During this time we pull activities from our pumpkin packet and our fall circle time props packet and add them to our dramatic play area, our table activities, small groups and circle time. Preschool Pumpkin Counting Activity Ideas
These pumpkin printables come two ways: with dots and with numbers. They are part of our fall circle time props packet, sold on Teachers Pay Teachers.
Table Activity: 1:1 Correspondence
For our two year olds, I placed some of the pumpkins on a tray along with Pom poms. The children placed one Pom Pom on each dot.
Matching the Dots to the Numbers
Table Activity
Place the pumpkins with the numbers on a tray and the pumpkins with the dots in a container next to the tray. Count how many dots are on the pumpkin and match with the correct number, placing it on top.
Circle Time
Our three’s teachers decided to use spider rings as counters along with the dot pumpkins
Place the pumpkins with the dots on the floor at your circle time area. Have some sort of small pieces that can be used as counters (in this case, spiders).
The teacher calls on a child to come up and count how many dots are on a pumpkin. The child then counts out that many spiders (or whatever you are using) and places one on each dot.
You can also do this like the table activity, above. Instead of giving the children spiders, give them one of the numbered cards. After they count how many dots are on a pumpkin, they find the matching numbered pumpkin and place it on top.
Circle Time Activity: Counting to Ten
For our two’s class, I like to place these on our magnetic board and invite the children to help me count them.
