Our preschoolers have loved to learn the alphabet with our ABC box! A few years into my teaching career, I found this hardware storage cabinet. You know, the ones that you store assorted nails and screws and such. I decided to turn it into an ABC box. So many years later, it’s still a favorite with our literacy activities!
Learn the Alphabet With Our ABC Box
I found our storage drawer cabinet at Goodwill (and I have seen many more there, so head on over to your local Goodwill or other thrift store!).
We labeled each drawer with alphabet stickers.
We often keep this box in our writing area, but it has also been in other areas of the classroom depending on the activity. If you’ve been reading my blog regularly, you know how I love to move things around!
We store paper letters (that we simply created in Word, printed on paper, and cut out) and also foam letters. Sometimes we will have magnetic letters in there, or letter stamps. It just depends on the activity we are doing. It’s a great way to sort any type of letter for the preschoolers to find.

When searching for particular letters, they point them out on the outside of the drawer first.
Pull open the drawer…
And take them out of the drawer.
We can then glue them onto paper.
I will also place a bunch of foam letters on the table and have the preschoolers sort them into the appropriate drawers. Or letter tiles. Or magnetic letters. It’s great for any letter sorting activity!
