How to Put Together a Frog Art Activity that Builds Counting Skills

Before starting this activity, I pulled out my 5 Green Speckled Frogs set and we counting while singing one of our favorite finger plays. I then gathered my materials for this 2-step frog art activity. I love that math can happen just about anywhere, including the art table. We had so much fun with our ladybug craft  and when we made our spiders. I created a free printable log and 5 frogs and invited the children to paint and assemble their frogs and logs while also counting from 1-5. CLICK HERE to find more frog activities!

Allow to thoroughly dry and then cut each piece out. Make enough copies for each child. (Note: There is also a large frog in the frogs and log packet. Save this to use at the writing table or to make our cute frog puppets.)

Another Way to Use this Frog Art Activity

Instead of gluing the frogs permanently to the log, place velcro pieces on the log and on each frog, so that the frogs can be removed. Invite your child to place 1 frog on each number. As an extra challenge, invite the child to call out each number while placing the frog on top of it. After counting each frog using the number line, glue the frogs onto the log. Rather than using flashcards and worksheets, toddlers and preschoolers are learning to count at the art table, while putting together the 5 frogs on a log. Then, give the children their frogs on the log during circle time. Tell them they are going to count the frogs. Together, count each frog out loud while pointing to each frog.
