Once the flower is finished, paint the craft stick green (stem of the flower). If you are looking for a toddler or preschool flower craft for your gardening theme, you are going to love this idea. It’s one of my favorite paper plate creations because the children love the process! Lots of painting, some gluing, and the most colorful flowers just like those in our school’s garden. A fun activity to embrace spring! The children love to wander over and touch the flowers, maybe even bending down to smell their scent. When we go on spring nature walks we call out the colors we see in the various flowers along the paths. This is also when we have a flower market in our dramatic play area, with bunches of pretend flowers displayed on tables and shelves. Since there are so many flowers around us, why not make some at the art table? That’s exactly what we did, and the activity was a hit with both our toddlers and our preschoolers.
paper plates paint (we used florescent paint for a more vibrant color, but that’s optional) white cupcake liners white condiment cups (this is optional – we happened to have some on hand) jumbo craft stick green paper cut into small leaves yellow pom poms glue
If you are also using a condiment cup, glue it inside the cupcake liner. Let dry. The children can then paint all around their flowers. Glue the leaves on the stems. Then cut triangles out of the edges of the plate. (Children with good cutting skills can do this part themselves.) Then, add glue to the bottom of the flower and add the stem (painted popsicle stick). You could display them on a bulletin board along with butterflies to add even more spring to your classroom!
