Right before winter break, when we’ve already completed our special Christmas crafts, I am ready for something easy and fun for my students. Hello, Christmas collage art! I’m not the neatest while wrapping gifts and leave scraps of paper all over my office. As I was finally collecting everything, ready to take it to the recycling bin, it dawned on me that I could use some of it for an art activity. What was so simple (and affordable) to put together ended up being very popular at our art table. Let me show you!

Easy Christmas Collage Art

The reason I thought about a collage is because my students LOVE any and all collage work. I’ve shared quite a few on the blog:

They really love this activity when I let them squeeze the glue from bottles rather than brushing it on the paper. And the squeezing part is what boosts the fine motor part of this collage idea. Supplies

Scraps of Christmas wrapping paper (I cut mine into squares and rectangles) Sheets of paper for the background (I used green) Glue (I used individual bottles of white glue)

How to adapt this activity for older preschoolers: Then, you can tint your glue. This is optional, but something I love to do. I put a few drops of tempera paint in each glue bottle. Easy! More: Why Squeezing Glue Is Important

Let’s Get Busy!

I set up trays on our art table. On teach tray I placed  a sheet of paper and a bottle of glue. I added a small tray of the gift wrap scraps. Invite your children to apply glue to the paper.

For preschoolers who have been using scissors, invite them to cut their own pieces of gift wrap!
