Inside: This fall sensory bin for preschoolers builds color recognition skills as the pom poms are transferred to matching colored containers. If you’ve been reading my blog for awhile, you know I love using pom poms for a variety of activities. (Remember our spring color sorting bin?) Young children can handle them easily and appreciate their soft texture. They are fun to pick up with the fingers or scooped with tongs or spoons. They fall gently when they are dropped and fit nicely into different containers. We seriously have pom poms for every season and holiday! Here is a simple, playful sensory bin your children will enjoy this fall.
Color Sorting Fall Sensory Bin for Preschoolers
What you will need:
red pom poms orange pom poms brown pom poms green pom poms plastic bug tongs small fabric leaves plastic containers sensory bin or plastic tub to put on table or floor
Setting up this fall sensory bin: Fill bin with all of the materials.
Before introducing this to our preschoolers, we read some fall books.
We then invited them to pick up the pom poms and leaves with the tongs and place them in the containers.
The pom poms are soft and fit nicely in the children’s hands, too!
For younger children, placing fingers and thumbs through handles might be a challenge, so you will see them opening and closing them from the base. Eventually with practice, they will be able to hold the handles. This is a wonderful pre-scissor exercise!
