I don’t know about you, but I love when I can find an easy idea that builds skills, is easy to set up, and is thoroughly enjoyed. A plus is if it uses what we already have! For this activity you will need bubble wrap, paint, rollers, and our free shamrock printable. Don’t be surprised if your children want to make more than one!

For this bubble wrap shamrock craft I made sure to cover the entire table so that my students could paint in large areas. Adding rollers allows them to work their entire arm and shoulder, too! I have found that doing “big art” is especially enjoyed by children with an extra amount of energy because they can keep on moving while painting. Because we were focusing on the color green, I turned this into a color mixing activity, inviting the children to mix blue and yellow paint.
Supplies
Blue tempera paint Yellow tempera paint Rollers or brayers Bubble wrap Shamrock shaped paper (scroll down for free printable)
Preparation
Make enough copies of the shamrock so each child has one. Cut away the background, if desired. We placed white paper underneath the bubble wrap since the wrap didn’t completely cover the table, but this is optional. Cover the table with bubble wrap, taping the edges so it doesn’t slide around.
When the children were ready to start rolling the paint, we squeezed the blue and the yellow paint in different areas of the bubble wrap and provided rollers. Roll the two colors until they become green. Encourage the children to cover as much of the bubble wrap as possible, making large movements involving the entire arm.
Then, take the shamrock paper and press it face down on top of the painted bubble wrap.
Pick up the shamrock that is now green!
