Inside: This bear color recognition printable activity is a fun matching game for toddlers and preschoolers. Cut the cards in half and match by color! We love activities that can be adapted depending on the learning level of our children, and this bear color recognition printable activity provides that opportunity. For toddlers, the cards will be placed on top of each other, building simple color recognition skills. For preschoolers, you will cut the cards in half, working on symmetry and balance.

What you will need:

Free bear color recognition printable (available at the bottom of this page)

Toddlers

Make two copies of the bear color recognition printable. Leave one copy intact and cut the other copy into cards. (Do not cut down the middle of the card.) Pick up one of the cards and ask them what color the bear is. If they do not yet know their colors, tell them that the bear is red. Ask them to place the card on top of the other red bear. Do this with the other cards as well. We suggest only using one of the pages at a time so that they are working on four colors, not eight. Once they get the hang of it, you can use the second page.

Older Toddlers/Young Preschoolers

Make two copies of the bear color recognition printable. Leave one copy intact and cut the other copy into cards. Then, cut each separated card in half, following the dashed lines. Match the card halves to the same colors that are on the page, as you see in the photos below.

Preschoolers

Add a bit more challenge by working on simple symmetry and balance. Make 1 copy of the printable and cut on all of the dotted lines so that all of the bears are cut in half. Place half of each bear on the table and put the other halves in a pile to the side. Invite your preschooler to take a half card from the file, recognize the color, and set it beside the matching colored half. You might want to start with just a few colors and eventually add more. This is a fun way to build classification skills while also building color recognition skills. These can be done at the activity table during centers time or with small groups, or right at the kitchen table at home. More Bear Printables:
