All About Me Ideas Theme Activities

This page contains ideas for that theme along with other All About Me resources. Because this is the first theme of our school year, things are really simple. I don’t put near as much out during this time because I don’t want to overwhelm the children, plus we are showing them how to handle materials, work together, and clean up when we are finished with centers time.

Art Ideas

Watercolor palettes – I will cover the entire table with butcher paper and provide palettes around the table that they can use to paint. More to read: Process Art Activities Friendship Banner (We hang these in our classroom the entire school year.)

My Family – The children get a copy of the “my house printable“. Copy this onto heavy paper and cut out the house shape (so the rest will not be part of this activity). The children can paint the house shape with watercolors and then I will glue their family photo in the middle of it. We will hang these in the classroom. More to read: Friends and Family Theme

Mirror Art – Place mirrors on the art table with paint and paintbrushes. Have your students look in the mirror and paint the outline and details of their face!

Sensory Bin

I might not have a sensory bin for the 2s class at this time, as I am simplifying what’s available right now. The 3s and 4s class will have dyed rice and their students’ family photos that have been laminated. The children will try to find their own family photos while playing in this bin. If we do use their bin, we will remove their family photos and work on scooping and pouring (and not dumping 🤣) rice. More to read: Big Collection of Sensory Table Activities for the Whole Year

Writing Table

I will cover the entire table with butcher paper and provide stubby crayons. More to read: Setting Up the Writing Center

Science and Exploration

I will provide safety mirrors so the children can look at themselves. I will have large sheets of paper and multi-cultural colored pencils for my children to explore. The 3s and 4s class will be using the “I am Special” sheet to draw a self-portrait. We will also have face outlines where the children can add their features. Playdough

Playdough with rolling pins and popsicle sticks. More to read: 15+ Playdough Learning Activities

Dramatic Play

“My House” – Basic kitchen set up with pots and pans, pretend food, aprons, cooking utensils, baby dolls. More to read: 25+ Dramatic Play Activities

Blocks

Cars, tree blocks, ramps, multi-cultural people. More to read: The Best Block Activities

Circle Time

Super short while we simply learn how to come to circle, look at a book from the book basket, and sing our good morning song.

5 Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed: The children will hold monkeys while sing the song. (Part of our Song & Rhymes Printable Packet)

If You’re Happy and You Know It: I will use props from our Song & Rhymes Printable Packet.

Notice the different shoe colors from the Learning About Clothing Packet. Print the shoe color cards and go around the circle and notice what color everyone’s shoes are. Hold up the appropriate cards as we do so. You can then place these cards on the floor and the children will come up, one at a time, to tap their shoe on the matching colored card.
