9 Favorite Valentines Day Ideas for Kids

Frozen Hearts Sensory Bin

Our toddlers and preschoolers love playing with water and ice, so it was no surprise that they loved this frozen heart sensory bin! Easy to set up, easy to clean up. In the past 16 or so years I’ve been teaching preschool, we’ve done lots of different Valentine activities. I wish I had started blogging that long ago so you could see them all! But, that would be quite a post, even if I did. Fortunately, I have blogged about many of the activities, and I thought today I would share our very favorites.

Marble Painted Hearts

We love painting with marbles and golf balls and do it every season, just changing the colors of the paint and the shape of the paper. These marble painted hearts are loved by energetic kids who get to keep moving while working!

Foil Valentine Hearts

Have your kids ever painted on foil? There is something about the texture that just makes it so fun! We added some extra fine motor by using Q-Tips instead of brushes. These foil hearts looked lovely in our classroom window!

Spin Art Hearts

It’s a real treat for kids to use a salad spinner at the art table! Our toddlers and preschoolers can do each step with little assistance. If you haven’t made spin art hearts yet, you must!

Cardboard Valentine’s Day Hearts

We love using recycled materials for our art activities. These cardboard hearts are super easy to make, and are a darling hanging in a window.

Festive Felt and Button Hearts

Gather your felt scraps and buttons! These festive hearts involve squeezing glue and adding colorful buttons.

Valentine Counting and Sorting with Free Printable

Looking for a fun sorting and counting activity for your preschool valentine theme? This can be an independent or small group activity, and I’ve provided a free printable for you to use.

Painting on Frozen Hearts

Inspired by our ice painting activity, I froze water and we painted on heart-shaped ice.

Pom Pom Cardboard Hearts

Recycle cardboard to make this Valentine heart craft. Toddlers love the feeling of pom poms as they press them into tinted glue. Add some ribbon and hang!
